In 2019 South Ribble Borough Council appointed WYG to develop a Town Centre Improvement Strategy for Leyland Town Centre to help guide future policy, action and investment for Leyland to best meet its full potential.  The Improvement Strategy will be used to inform investment opportunities, potential physical improvement works and future strategic policy for the town centre with a key output being a focused spatial improvement strategy for the area.

The first stages of transformation plans for Leyland town centre have been approved. A draft Leyland Town Centre Improvement Strategy  report has been developed and residents are now being asked to give for their views on what they would like to see.

The starting point for the plan was to look at the Leyland town centre boundaries and splitting the centre into 4 key areas:

  • Hough Lane - main retail area
  • Leyland Gateways - train station and Chapel Brow
  • Civic Quarter - Council offices, Leisure Centre, Courts and Library
  • Leyland Museum – covering Towngate area and Commercial Vehicle Museum

The first priority area is proposed to be Hough Lane which could see more pedestrian space, creating civic spaces for events, better links, modern units and changes to car parking. The second priority area would be Chapel Brow leading up to the train station.

Leyland town centre will feature as a key project in a Town Deal funding bid to be submitted in Summer.
